In the Piedmont province of Vercelli, a historic rice capital of Europe, lies the 137 hectares of Tenuta Colombara. With its rice paddy fields irrigated by pure water from the nearby Alps, the farm provides a natural haven where fish, frogs and rare birds such as the hoopoe and red heron thrive.
 
It is also the place where three generations of the Rondolino family – originally Cesare, now Piero and his son Rinaldo – have dedicated themselves to producing a work of art, Acquerello organic carnaroli rice.
 
1934 Cesare Rondolino acquires the Colombara property.
1991 Acquerello rice cultivation started by Peiro Rondolino.
1998 Rinaldo Rondolino transforms the entire production to organic rice cultivation.
2002 Acquerello cooperates with the Slow Food movement to create Master of Food courses.
2003 The ecosystem is improved with the introduction of herbivorous carps and dragonflies.
2004 Tenuta Colombara becomes one of the centres of the University of Gastronomical Sciences.
